Plex Server, and for the plex client i use the NVIDIA Shield Pro works amazing even with h265 content.

vlc is my fav
VLC for many many years now, free and plays everything, never had any issues. I think VLC is the best if not the best video player out there at the moment.

Used XBMC, ehm, Kodi for years, but I now only use Netflix for streaming and VLC for downloads
I use Kodi on a FireTV (1st gen). However since one of the updates by amazon I need to use the so called shitty version to get DTS passthrough to work.
Also x265 files do not really play well. For the moment that is OK, on the long run I am looking for an alternative to run Kodi.
If any of you have a recommendation it would be appreciated.
Media Player Classic: Home Cinema
Media player classic HC, it is very light weight and I like how it looks and feels. Vlc is great also but never really felt it like mpc.

Like many said VLC does wonders... but if you want to make it a bit more polyvalent ... Plex server can stream to pretty much anything. Btw i'm not related or anything with the software developer just really like the product.

I finally gave in and setup Plex recently; so for the TV's that's my choice. If I'm on the computer I still normally end up in VLC.
