I usually use handbrake to convert 10bit anime to 8bit. It is pretty fast and you can just run batch files on it to speed up the whole process of converting all your videos.

Use Xilisoft video converter. Its the nice one :D

I usually use heavily customized versions of StaxRip and MeGUI for x264 encoding. I made the jump to direct command-line encoding last year,but found that using Stax & MeGUI was simpler. I use my own Avisynth scripts as well,so my encoding times are usually counted in days...lol!
