Looks like my pick is convertxtodvd and the winner i like the ability of converting 3 or 4 movies using 8 cores and it is extremely quick
i use Arista Transcoder on linux and freemake on windows

Is my opinion Handbrake is a fantastic encoder/converter.
Using ffmpeg/avconv directly on the command line isn't too hard if you rtfm, and it's very flexible. If a gui is a must then Handbrake is good.
