Hey, did anyone mentioned plain FFmpeg?
A few month ago i suddenly realized, that it's the best choice for advanced user, who prefer maximum encoding speed and format support.
With it i can even transcode some of these 90's in-game videos, which no modern player can handle.
Yes, it's quite difficult to newbie, but if you often do batch transcoding of several files on-the-fly, that's the point to familiarize with it.
