Yea, there isn't much better than the "Media Player Classic" Video player that comes free with the k-lite codec pack. It starts up instantly without all the junky glitter that other players have (with their skins and junk). But it still has a mess of features that you could use to do stuff (like if the sound goes out of sink by a few hundred milliseconds you can shift it so that it lines back up again). Also, sometimes your video has sound that doesn't get through to your TV (if you hook it up through the head phone jack) that you can get to work by redirecting the audio from one channel to another. Its a powerful enough video player, but it doesn't seem like it (which is a plus cause the power doesn't get in your way).

So, get the k-lite codec pack and after you install it it will have the "Media Player Classic". Also, the codec pack itself is pretty good. It gives you everything you will need to get all your videos running. Mind you I did notice that there was some conflicts in one of the games that I was playing (I think it was Fallout 3), but that went away after I installed the next update.

Oh, so "Media Player Classic" for the PC, but for the Mac it would be VLC Player. VLC Player isn't as powerful as "Media Player Classic", but you aren't going to find much that is on the Mac without it taking 12 hours for the app to load. VLC Player, like "Media Player Classic", loads quickly. And that is probably the best feature of any video player. You want to be able to quickly click through videos/music/etc looking for something and if it takes forever to load the player then it is not a good player (if you ask me).

Oh, by the way, I used "Media Player Classic" and VLC Player (mac) for all of my music as well. On the Mac it is iTunes that is the default for playing audio files. What a disaster that is. You double click on a little web audio link and 10 minutes later iTunes is loaded and importing the audio file before it finally plays it. You definitely need to change the default audio settings for your audio files on your Mac to point to the VLC Player. On the PC you can just go to the option settings for "Media Player Classic" and tell it to set all of the file formats to use "Media Player Classic" as the default. That way it won't load Microsoft's stupid player by default.
