avg gives a lot of false positive readings, has become unreliable nowadays.
ms security essentials actually has come a long way, was rated in the top 10 last year i think for free services (if u have a valid windows license)

AVG, been using it for five years.

Avast but only with a well setup, I don't like the default settings in it.

Avast and AVG, both are quite good.

OS X user here, I don't have an AV running all the time. but I do occasionally load up Avast to do an on-demand scan. According to AV-TEST, it's the only decent free option on Mac.

AVG is the best freeware AV. i use to work in a pc shop and if the customers didnt have a AV we installed that for them.

Avast! is great, but not good for really bad PC.
