I think the best Anti Virus is ESET Nod32. Too.

Back when I use to use windows 7 (I use ubuntu now) I use to and still run Malwarebytes(It just simply works) on most of my windows boxes. Back in the day it was avast/mbam combo which worked very well, But the job of a antivirus is just basically a glorified IDS(Depending on features) with the ability to detect worms/malware/trojans/etc via filehash, So really when picking "The best av" is to pick one with a high detection rate etc, So far mbam has done this perfectly :) However if the file source is a stub/encrypted then the antivirus wont be able to pick it up at runtime because the code has had obfuscation applied, Helping the malware evade AV, A lot(if not all) of it will be written into memory (Typically via DLL injection) to evade detection(Disk writing will normally alert a av). Typically researchers will perform Static Analysis of the malware first to get a good-overview of what the malware is trying to do, This could be looking for certain strings(string extraction) This way we can analyze a malware sample without actually executing it. Researchers can also do Dynamic Analysis to learn the behaviour of malware, which requires live execution. Then studying the behaviour of what it does upon/after execution, i.e Did that malware just drop something in my Documents folder? Did it just try to make a log file, config file, etc?

You can also build the vm from scratch your self, But they make take time to setup properly.


I also tend to use CCleaner and Rougekiller when cleaning infected computers, As well as some boot time scan disks for a deeper clean. I also tend to do all of this in safe mode(WITH NO NETWORKING)


Also social engineering: If it is to good to be true then it prob is.

My li'l brother is. Kaspersky is a close second.

Don't use one now. Earlier I used BitDefender and Malwarebytes. They both are good.
Had Avast for several years too, but then there came a time where it was able to detect a threat but not remove it. But a fresh install of malewarebytes fix it.. That's when I stopped using Avast. I have grown to dislike it since I moved to bitdefender.

You should probably add / Best anti malware as well
For example Malwarebytes premium is one of the best anti malware softwares for malewares
Because there's a difference between anti malware and anti virus.
And you can reset the trial none stop >.>

I've started using ZoneAlarm Antivirus. It is a new antivirus for me because three months ago I have not even heard about it. It is hard to say if it is the best because I have not met serious problems yet. But it is working well. Before I used Norton. Probably among the good antiviruses but I decided to try something new.

I have always used NOD practically. Initially I was looking for keys on Google that worked for 1-2 months, then I broke my balls and bought a key from ebay for 3-4€ (I don't remember) but that lasts 2 years.

1º Never search on the internet for the important sites, like bank account, shopping sites, etc. Go directly to the page. This will prevent phishing pages

2º Beware with public trackers. We never know what we download, even if for a movie

3º Update all softwares and keep the operating system updated as well

4º Do not open unknown files via email

I always do it and I do not use any antivirus!

Hands down Bitdefender Total Security especially because you can get the pro for free by simply making new emails and getting the 3-6 month free trials

ESET got they shit on lock. Tigther than some good pussy...

Eset Internet security. Strong protection and performance. Kaspersky close 2nd.

Been using the built-in windows defender for yonks, but I do use Windows Firewall Control to reign that in and that's a part of Malwarebytes now so I suppose thats the company I'll throw my hat in with.

I'm used to Avira, but seing the poll results, I might try Kaspersky!

I used McAfee about a decade ago for no other reason than I had extra licenses laying around. I thought that it did a reasonably good job, but it was a resource hog at times. However, over the recent years, I've discovered that the Windows Security that comes with the operating system is actually more than adequate and doesn't noticeably slow down my system.

home AV are pretty much a gimmick, you should stick with MS Defender. There's no point in paying for an AV solution in 2022 unless you want bells and whistles, you won't get a better protection than most free AVs out there (security/protection-wise) but don't take my words for it, look it up yourself :)

Windows Defender

Been using Avast for a while now. Overall it's fine. Is it the best? No, but it gets the job done. Can go with just Windows Defender only but prefer to have an actual antivirus installed.

All the anti-virus software I used in the past has made my old computers run real slow,
I usually found myself turning off their "realtime-protection" mode for my computer to run faster...
But now on my fast PC I don't even bother downloading an AV and just let the windows defender its job.
So I guess you can say I use Microsoft Security Essentials :)

I see Kaspersky has the highest votes, and it's my favorite anti-virus after trying alot of them actually.

Still using Kaspersky.

There's no need for an AV nowadays. Use the build-in ones.The other ones will slow down your PC. :regular_smile:

I stick with Windows Defender, but run untrusted websites and apps thru Sandboxie Plus.

I am using ESET NOD. I am a fan of Kaspersky but is quite difficult to get a working license so using what's free.
