'Star Wars: Battlefront III' Update Sparks Hope for Players
There might be hope for a third Star Wars: Battlefront video game after all. Mats Helge Holm, one of the developers who worked on both modern entries of the franchise, stated in a Reddit comment that many members of the team behind the games want to work on a third installment. The comments arrive after Star Wars: Battlefront II gained plenty of popularity once again, almost a decade after the title was launched to celebrate the release of Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Players have been waiting for a new chapter for a long time. While Battlefront II is available for playing on new consoles, developer support and content updates were halted sooner than expected due to widespread controversy caused by the game's launch. Still, the game still has a dedicated following of fans, and the prospect of a new console generation makes another installment more desirable for them. Here's what the developer had to say about a potential new game:
"Me, and having heard around my group of ex-colleagues, we want to get the gang back together."
The Battlefront titles allow players to play as their favorite Star Wars characters across different game modes. Open battles, lightsaber fights, and armies clashing with one another are some of the things that have allowed the games to provide players with thousands of hours of fun. The original Battlefront video games were released during the times of the prequel trilogy. Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith was about to depict Anakin Skywalker's (Hayden Christensen) fall to the dark side on the big screen, and the original Battlefront II was released to let fans dive deep into the action.
The development of the Star Wars sequel trilogy paved the way for the modern Battlefront video games. Disney constructed a major marketing campaign to support the launch of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. While that included a modern take on the Battlefront concept, it didn't compare to what the second game accomplished a couple of years later. Star Wars: Battlefront II has remained popular with players for eight years and continues to be fun for a lot of people, but as the franchise moves forward, demand for a new game continues to grow.
The Current State of 'Star Wars'
Star Wars: Battlefront II was released a few weeks before Star Wars: The Last Jedi. The game continued to receive updates after the launch of the movie, with players able to download content related to both Solo: A Star Wars Story and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Many years have passed since then. The technology behind game consoles continues to evolve, and players still see the potential to get Battlefront maps and skins related to The Mandalorian, Andor and maybe even Skeleton Crew in a future game. Hopefully, the upcoming launches of The Mandalorian & Grogu and Star Wars: Starfighter will inspire Disney to work on another installment of the beloved video game franchise.
Star Wars: Battlefront II is now available for purchase through both digital downloads and physical copies. Stay tuned to Collider for more updates.
