Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning Trailer Goes Back To The Beginning For Tom Cruise's Ethan Hunt & Shows Off High-Flying Action

The latest trailer for Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning has arrived with the Super Bowl. Set to release this summer, the movie will pick up with Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) following the events of 2023's Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning and find him continuing his work to stop the rogue AI Entity. The upcoming Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning, which was directed and co-written by Christopher McQuarrie, will also feature the return of franchise cast members such as Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Vanessa Kirby, Hayley Atwell, Pom Klementieff, and Esai Morales.

During the Super Bowl, Paramount Pictures unveiled the latest trailer for Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning. It features a montage of images of some of Ethan Hunt's most death-defying stunts from previous installments, playing beneath a monologue from the new movie teasing that "everything you've done has come to this." The trailer then ends on a shot of the character hanging upside down from a plane, putting him in imminent peril that is underscored by the fact that he ends the spot with the line "I need you to trust me one last time." Check it out below:

What This Means For Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning

The Movie Will Be As Stunt-Packed As Ever

For quite some time, the Mission: Impossible movies have become known for their high-stakes stunts, the majority of which involve Tom Cruise taking on massive real-life risks to service the thrills of the adventure, including being strapped to the side of a plane. This approach began to come to prominence when the fourth installment, 2011's Ghost Protocol, featured the star climbing the Burj Khalifa. The trailer both highlights this legacy and promises that it will continue with The Final Reckoning.

The Burj Khalifa, which is located in Dubai, is the world's tallest building at a height of 2,722 feet.

The movie's new plane stunt has been the centerpiece of the advertising campaign, but it seems highly likely that the movie will include other stunning setpieces. So far, the franchise has consistently found ways to make these Mission: Impossible stunts bigger and more impressively dangerous with each subsequent installment. However, the fact that the title and the trailer are decisively calling this Ethan's final adventure also raises the stakes considerably, as it is entirely possible that the iconic character will die before the end of the movie.

Our Take On The Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning Trailer
It Can End The Franchise With A Bang

It ultimately remains to be seen if Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning is truly the final installment in the franchise. However, if it is, or if it is at least the final installment to feature the current iteration of the cast, it seems poised to be a fitting finale for a high-octane franchise that has brought some of cinema’s most exciting stunts to the screen consistently for more than a decade. While this teaser does not reveal too much, if the movie can live up to the legacy teased by the flashback footage, it will be a towering conclusion.
