Venom has become an all-time best performer for Sony in Russia, while the movie also has good chances of making the top 10 Hollywood release all-time list.


To date, Venom has grossed 1.59 billion rubles ($24 million), which makes it this year's second-highest-grossing movie locally, behind Disney's Avengers: Infinity War. The latter, which came out in Russia on May 3, has grossed 2.16 billion rubles ($32.7 million).


Venom opened on 1,378 screens Oct. 4 and garnered the fourth-best opening-weekend performance among all releases in Russia of all time, taking in 953 billion rubles ($14.4 million).


That figure was only beaten by the most recent installment in the Avengers franchise (1.03 billion rubles, or $15.6 million) and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales (968 billion rubles, or $14.7 million).


Following the opening weekend, Leonid Karnozov, Sony Pictures Russia's marketing director, was quoted by local trade journal Exhibitor's Bulletin as saying that the company would step up support for the release. He also pointed to the high average mark viewers gave the film on KinoPoisk, the local equivalent of IMDb, as a good sign for the movie's performance in subsequent weeks.


Venom also looks set to make the top 10 list of Hollywood releases in Russia of all time. Currently, the movie is at No. 18 on that list, but it is only 180 billion rubles ($2.7 million) behind No. 10 Deadpool and will stay in theaters for a few more weeks.
