A new image from The Matrix Resurrections shows off mysterious new tech and the supporting cast. The fourth film in The Matrix series, The Matrix Resurrections, will debut in theaters and HBO Max next month. Director Lana Wachowski returns to the franchise to direct the latest installment, bringing back stars Keanu Reeves as Neo and Carrie-Anne Moss as Trinity.

Other stars in the film include Iron Fist's Jessica Henwick and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, who plays Morpheus, a role originated by actor Laurence Fishburne in the original trilogy. Also joining the film are Eréndira Ibarra and Toby Onwumere, who worked with director Lana Wachowski for the Netflix series Sense8. Neil Patrick Harris, Jonathan Groff, Jada Pinkett Smith, Christina Ricci, and Priyanka Chopra Jonas also star in the new film.

In a new image from the film, released by EW, both Ibarra and Onwumere are shown with Henwick's Bugs and Abdul-Mateen II's Morpheus wearing new tech that hasn't been seen in the franchise to date. Onwumere's set-up comprises a vest, visor, headset, and special gloves that look similar to the future tech shown in prior films, but not entirely on this level. As details are sparse in terms of story for The Matrix Resurrections, there's much to speculate on, including this new tech, which you can see in detail below:

With so much of The Matrix Resurrections story still being kept secret, it's hard to theorize what the new tech featured in this image may be for. The obvious answer is that it has something to do with jumping between the real world and The Matrix, but how that works or what it does is yet to be revealed. However, new tech and new ideas are a welcome addition to The Matrix Resurrections. A retread of all that's been done before would be a tragic mistake for the latest entry in the series, which needs to deliver on the things that make The Matrix unique while also pushing it into new territory that will keep viewers guessing.
