Jenna Ortega is set to appear in several upcoming TV shows and movies following her success in the Netflix smash hit Wednesday. Ortega has appeared in 40 different projects prior to her lead role on Wednesday according to her IMDB page, varying from voice acting, to leading roles, and guest characters. Given her many talents, it is no surprise that Ortega already has other projects in the works.
Despite having done work in the past for Disney Channel's Stuck in the Middle and voice-over work for children's shows such as Elena of Avalor, Ortega seems to be finding her niche in Hollywood in a different area. Ortega has appeared in horror prior to her stand-out work in Wednesday, and she has three upcoming movies two of which are horror/thriller. Ortega is confirmed to either star or appear in Finestkind, Scream 6, and Miller's Girl, so audiences certainly haven't seen the last of this talented actress.
Scream 6
In 2022, Ortega portrayed the character Tara in Scream and will be reprising the role in a larger capacity in 2023's Scream 6. Known for its meta approach to horror, Scream 6 is another installment of a revival of the original franchise and is the sixth installment of the Ghostface franchise. Ortega teased that Tara will be more developed in the sequel and she is excited to give her some more personality after the last movie didn't allow much room for that. Audiences can look forward to a return to New York next year, as it is scheduled for a March 10th release, and it will be interesting to see how Tara's character has changed since the first movie.
Finestkind
Ortega is also set to star in the thriller, Finestkind which is currently in post-production. The movie will be set in Boston and follow two brothers who reunite as adults one summer, only to get tangled up in a dangerous crime scandal. When a young woman (who will be played by Ortega) gets caught in the middle, it winds up testing bonds, loyalty, and the brothers' humanity.
While Ortega may be known as the Scream Queen for her work in the horror genre and portrayal of the supernatural, it appears that this thriller may edge towards a real-life thriller/horror approach. Ortega's character name has not been revealed yet but getting caught in the middle of a crime scandal is horrific in a much different way than the horrors depicted in Scream or Wednesday. It will be interesting to see Ortega's talents grow as she takes on a new role in a similar yet different genre. While not much else is known about Finestkind yet, Paramount+ acquired the rights earlier this year, so audiences can look forward to streaming it soon.
Miller's Girl
A departure from the thriller/horror genre, Ortega is currently filming Miller's Girl which is a comedy/drama surrounding a gifted student. Given her real-life talents that came to light after Wednesday, such as Ortega learning to play cello, choreographing Wednesday's dance herself, and more, it would be interesting to see her portraying a talented student. Little is known about the project thus far, but the synopsis describes it centering around a creative writing assignment that is given to a talented student, but it yields complex results. While no character names have been revealed, Ortega is set to star in the film, so it is likely that she will portray the talented student or perhaps a close friend.
