DC FanDome gave the first look at the upcoming animated film DC League of Super-Pets with an exclusive trailer. While DC has put focus on many of their iconic superheroes with projects based around Shazam, The Flash, and Blue Beetle in development, it came as a shock to many when it was announced that DC was working on an animated feature film for characters like Krypto and Ace the Bat-Hound. The project was announced in 2018, with Jared Stern writing and directing the film.

The film focuses on Krypto the Super Dog (voiced by Dwayne Johnson) and Ace the Bat-Hound (voiced by Kevin Hart). It is one of two DC properties Dwayne Jonhson and producers Dany and Hiram Garcia are involved in, the other being Black Adam, which will open later in summer 2022. DC League of Super-Pets features an all-star cast of voice actors, including Kate McKinnon, John Kranisinki, Vanessa Bayer, Natasha Lyonne, Diego Luna, Keanu Reeves, and Jameela Jamil. It was recently confirmed that comedian Marc Maron had signed on to play Lex Luthor in the film.

At DC FanDome, the first sneak-peek trailer at the DC League of Super-Pets was unveiled for audiences. It gave a brief clip of the film, as well as audio of Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart voicing their characters. The teaser ends with an announcement of a global premiere for the next trailer dropping in November. Watch the teaser trailer below:

The film's official trailer will likely drop the second week of November, shortly before the release of the canine-centric family film Clifford the Big Red Dog, which will open in theaters and on Paramount+ on November 12, 2021. The trailer can then be attached to a number of animated films over the holiday season, like Disney's Encanto, to build anticipation for the film. DC League of Super-Pets will need as much anticipation behind it as possible since it opens two weeks after Thor: Love and Thunder and the week before Top Gun: Maverick, John Wick: Chapter 4, and The Bob's Burgers Movie.

While little is known about the plot of the movie, the tone of the first look suggests a comedic sensibility similar to other theatrical animated films based around DC characters like Teen Titans: Go to the Movies and The Lego Batman Movie. It showcases Warner Bros. and DC's approach to the worlds of DC Comics, as they can tell a wide array of stories in various genres across different mediums for different audiences. While older fans are likely to skip out on DC League of Super-Pets, younger audiences may flock to the theaters, and it may be their gateway point into the superheroes of the DC universe.
