ames Gunn has just made Superman: Legacy's first returning DCEU character theory more likely. Gunn is writing and directing 2025's Superman: Legacy, the movie that will not only reboot the Man of Steel and his supporting cast but will also be the first film in the new DC Universe. Henry Cavill leaves the cape behind in favor of a younger actor taking on the Superman role in the DC Universe. David Corenswet leads Superman: Legacy as the new Clark Kent, with Rachel Brosnahan set to stand by his side as Lois Lane.

After the long process of finding Superman and Lois' actors for the upcoming movie, with hundreds of actors being considered for each part, Gunn is now set to find who will play Jimmy Olsen and Lex Luthor in the film, as well as round out the movie's supporting cast. Superman: Legacy might be recasting major roles from the DCEU for the new DC Universe, but that does not mean that the movie could not see at least one familiar face pop up. There has been a DCEU character return theory in Superman: Legacy going on for some time, with Gunn now fueling that theory with a new comment.

James Gunn's Vigilante Comment Makes His Return In Superman: Legacy More Likely

Gunn took to new social media Threads, Mark Zuckerberg's answer to Twitter, to respond to a fan asking when Freddie Stroma's Vigilante could show up in the DC Universe.

James Gunn comments on Vigilante's DC return on Threads.
User @edsangui asked Gunn when Vigilante would be seen again, with the new DC Studios creative chief replying that the character's next appearance would come "Probably before Peacemaker Season 2." There are a couple of projects where Vigilante could show up, one of them being the announced Waller series on Max, which is confirmed to feature characters from Peacemaker, and the other is Gunn's Superman: Legacy.

When Superman: Legacy's first casting reports surfaced in May, Gunn took to Twitter to reveal that he had only cast one character at the time for the movie and that it was not "any of the regular players in the Superman world." The director then ended his comment by posting a merman emoji, which harkens back to Vigilante's love for the emoji in Peacemaker. That tease led fans to speculate that Vigilante would show up in Superman: Legacy, with Gunn's new comment that the character should appear before Peacemaker season 2 upping the chances of Stroma returning to the role in Superman: Legacy.

Why Vigilante Appearing In Superman: Legacy Would Be Perfect For The DCU

It has been reported that Superman: Legacy will show Corenswet's Clark Kent living in a world where superheroes already exist. While members of The Authority, the team that has a DC Universe movie lined up, are said to appear in the film, having a fan-favorite character like Stroma's Vigilante is the perfect choice to help bridge the gap between the old DCEU and the new DC Universe in Superman: Legacy. Vigilante's presence would be a better addition than any other minor DC characters that the audience is not attached to, upping Superman: Legacy's chances of being a crowd-pleaser.
