How to keep up a good ratio
How to keep up a good ratio
This topic is made for the people out there that are still having trouble understanding "Ratio".
1. USE A WELL KNOWN BITTORENT CLIENT:
Use a client that most others users use such as "Utorrent & Azereus". They both contain the "Update Tracker" feature that updates throughout the downloading/uploading of the torrent. Updating means that its updating your ratio to the tracker. So when choosing a client make sure its one of these two as they are the best going around right now. If you do choose to use another client its at your own risk as some can do more bad then good to your overall ratio.
2. POPULAR TORRENTS:
The trick is to wait for new "Popular Torrents" to be uploaded and jump on them straight away so you can upload to all the other leechers and achieve a better ratio. The earlier you get on the torrent the better chance you have on uploading more to the leechers. You won't have to worry about your ratio being bad on the torrent if your one of the first few on it and you can even go further then the 1:1 ratio on the torrent so you gain a higher overall ratio.
3. NEEDS SEEDS:
If you have downloaded a file from another site and it has just recently been uploaded on the site you have a bad ratio on. Don't be afraid to jump on and help seed it. Just download the torrent file from the site and direct your torrent to the already downloaded file and before you know it your ratios going up. If you see a torrent in the "Needs Seeds" section and you have it help seed it you never know it may have a few leechers.
4. OLD TORRENTS:
If you have a poor ratio and plan on downloading "Old Torrents" with maybe 1 or 2 seeders and 0 leechers i would suggest otherwise. If you however do decide to download it you will just be making matters worse for yourself by making your ratio worse. If you do really want the file follow steps 2 first then get that torrent later. That way you wont run into ratio problems in the future.
5. CONNECTABLE:
Being "Connectable" is very important. If you aren't connectable then you will upload/download to a lot less then you would if you were connectable. The way to check whether you are connectable or not is by your torrent client. Along the bottom it should have a icon either Green, Yellow or Red. Green means connectable, Red means your not connectable.
6. DOWNLOADS:
Do not "Download" or seed more then 1 torrent at a time. Unless of course you have a high upload speed. I have a max upload speed of 30kbs, which is fairly low. Which is why i only seed 1 torrent at a time. People with higher upload speeds are able to download/upload more then 1 torrent at once because there connection allows them and they will be to handle the ratio. But if you have a relativity low upload speed like myself best just to seed the 1 torrent and a time to a 1:1 ratio of even a 1.500 ratio so then you gain a higher ratio.
7. MASS RATIO BANS:
Watch out if you have a ratio below 0.600. There is a "Mass Ratio Bans" that occurs on the last day of each month. All members below 0.600 ratio will be automatically banned. There is usually an announcement made half way through the month that this is going to occur. So as soon you here about it work on your ratio as much as you can and make sure to get it over 0.600 and you wont be banned. However if you know your not going to make the 0.600 mark donate so that your ratio goes over 0.600 and that way you wont get banned and your helping the site at the same time.
8. 1:1 RATIO ISNT THE LIMIT:
"1.000 Ratio Isn't The Limit On Torrents" you can keep seeding until you get a 2.000 ratio on that torrent that way you will be sure to never run into ratio problems in the future. Even if you don't have the best of speeds just make sure to plan ahead. It's a good feeling when you download a big torrent and you know you don't have to worry about your ratio suffering.
9. DONATE:
If you are under the 0.600 limit and you have been warned and are set to be banned. "Donate", Upload do whatever you can to make sure you get your ratio above 0.600 at all costs. Or you will be banned.
10.FREE LEECH:
If you see torrent specifically marked with (FreeLeech) these will improve your ratio as only Uploads count while downloads does not.
