When it was announced that Danielle Panabaker had joined The CW’s Arrowverse as The Flash character Caitlin Snow, DC Comics fans wondered when — or if — she would suit up as the icy villain Killer Frost. That time arrived in season 2 after Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) opened a breach between Earth-1 and Earth-2, leading Team Flash to explore the alternate world. On Earth-2, Caitlin’s doppelganger had become the villainous Killer Frost. She appeared in a few episodes while Team Flash fought Zoom, but thanks to the Flashpoint timeline, the villain will make her presence known on Earth-1 in season 3.

Throughout the early episodes of The Flash season 3 it was revealed Caitlin had begun developing powers as a result of Barry messing with the timeline. The most recent episode in season 3, ‘Monster’, saw Caitlin turn to her mother for help as the metahuman powers continued to worsen and get out of control. Now, the synopsis for episode 7, aptly titled ‘Killer Frost’, teases the villain being unleashed on Central City.

The CW released the synopsis for the November 22nd episode, ‘Killer Frost’, which will see the return of Kevin Smith as director. Take a look at the ‘Killer Frost’ synopsis:

KEVIN SMITH DIRECTS; KILLER FROST EMERGES — Caitlin (Danielle Panabaker) uses her powers to save Barry (Grant Gustin) but as her mother predicted, the effort unleashes her inner Killer Frost. Killer Frost goes on a rampage looking for Dr. Alchemy, kidnapping Julian (Tom Felton) and battling both The Flash and Vibe (Carlos Valdes). Meanwhile, Joe (Jesse L. Martin) and H.R. (Tom Cavanagh) have a heart to heart talk.

Smith previously helmed the season 2 episode of The Flash, ‘The Runaway Dinosaur’ and is set to direct an episode of Supergirl’s second season as well. He has been teasing both episodes on social media; for The Flash, he promised more action than in ‘The Runaway Dinosaur’, revealed the ‘Killer Frost’ episode title, and confirmed the inclusion of Dr. Alchemy — who is proving to be a major antagonist in The Flash season 3. So, much of the ‘Killer Frost’ synopsis seems to confirm details we previously knew or could deduce.

As for Smith’s return behind the camera, since ‘The Runaway Dinosaur’ was well received by critics and fans, it stands to reason ‘Killer Frost’ may be similarly received by viewers. Smith himself has earned plenty geek credit given his own status as a fan of comics, so it’s likely he brings a unique perspective to The Flash.

Of course, even with Smith returning as director, many fans of the series are looking forward to the episode for its full introduction of The Flash’s new Killer Frost. Whether this iteration of the character will be well received by viewers — or how it will differentiate from Earth-2 Killer Frost — remains to be seen when the episode airs later this month.
