My experience as a newbie in this Torrent world
Hi,
Thought I would share my thoughts being a newbie and maybe see what others are thinking too.
I been using for years newsgroups with SABNZB and SickRage to obtain TV and movie files. I have most of the applications scripted so once a file is downloaded it is moved to my Plex server, (10TB) NAS
Setting up the Seedbox was easy. The hardest part so far is finding a Private Tracker that I can use, (Thanks to Trader) I found one..
The one thing I found strange is the ratio part. When I joined the tracker, it stated that I had to download 15 gig per quarter, so I thought no problem, I downloaded 2 new movies and they are now seeding on the seedbox.
But, it seems it will take a while until I reach a good ratio. I just started the seedbox this week and my ratio is .18, hopefully that is a good start for ratios.
Well, again just my newbie thoughts,
Take care all

15 GB per quarter? You mean you have to download 15 GB every 3 months...?
0.18 means you downloaded much more than you uploaded and that's not a good sign... Ideally your ratio should be 1 or more, but sometimes it's difficult to reach that number, because there aren't many leechers or there are a lot of seeders... If you see that your ratio is not improving then I think you should consider uploading something to the tracker (respecting its rules, of course).
Good luck!

Yes, I thinking the Tracker is requiring this so that others can share the files too. One of the problems I see, is that everything I have is already on the tracker, so I am just hoping having a seedbox will be enough to meet the ratio.

If I had been in your place I wouldn't have downloaded anything until I make sure I have a nice buffer (GBs of uploaded data) so my ratio won't be compromised. I think that's the safest thing to do. 0.18 is a dangerously low ratio... I don't mean to scare you just trying to give you advice for the future. Sometimes there's no guarantee that you'll seed the same amount of data you downloaded, even with a seedbox. I think you should be careful with that.
Anyway, I hope your ratio improves and things work out well for you.

@donut001
try to get on some easier sites. Not worth it to have access to top sites when you can't build up your ratio.
-
@donut001 if you have a seedbox it's not difficult to improve your ratio on that specific tracker. Just jump on new torrents from their internal groups.

Hi there,
Can you tell me what internal groups are? sorry, this is all new to me. Thank you for helping me here, I like how everyone is friendly and helpful on this site Great site to belong to!

I'm right there with you in being new to all this! You're ahead of me, tho, I don't know what a tracker is yet or why I need one. I've been looking for the safest way to download the tv shows I can't get without cable or satellite since I cut the cord back in '12 and I was introduced to seedboxes a few weeks ago.
I'm going to keep an eye on your thread here and hopefully can learn along with you.
