The team behind secure messaging app Briar - which uses the Tor anonymity network or local networks to send and receive messages - has announced that the app is out of beta, as a stable version is now available to download from Google Play.

The company says some new features are in the pipeline for the app. These include the ability to add contacts remotely prior to verifying identities in person, image attachments for messages, and improved battery life.
Team Briar also says they'll start working on developing a desktop client for the service as well.
As for an iOS client, here's what they have to say: "Bringing the P2P messenger to the iPhone is challenging, because Apple does not allow long-lived network connections in the background which are needed for P2P messaging."
