Three straight solo artists have reigned for the first time since 1992.
For the first time in nearly 27 years, and the second time in the survey's history, Billboard's Alternative Songs airplay chart has been topped by three consecutive solo artists.

Dominic Fike's "3 Nights" lifts 3-1 on the Sept. 21-dated tally, marking his first leader on the list in his first appearance.

His No. 1 directly follows the reigns of Matt Maeson's "Cringe" and Billie Eilish's "Bad Guy," giving the Alternative Songs chart three straight solo No. 1s for the first time since 1992, when Morrissey's "Tomorrow" was followed by Peter Gabriel's "Digging in the Dirt" and Suzanne Vega's "Blood Makes Noise."

Should one more solo artist lead next -- and it's entirely possible, with Lana Del Rey's "Doin' Time" rising 4-3 -- it would mark the first time in the chart's three-decade history that four straight reigns would belong to soloists.

Fike is also the fourth act to score a first Alternative Songs No. 1 in 2019, and third to do so with an initial charted title. Maeson and SHAED ("Trampoline") led on their first tries, while Eilish first dominated with "Bury a Friend," her second entry.

"3 Nights" concurrently bullets at No. 5 on the all-rock-format Rock Airplay ranking, reaching a new weekly high of 7.4 million audience impressions, according to Nielsen Music. The track also breaks into the top 30 of Adult Pop Songs (32-29), and Fike himself moves into the top 20 of the Emerging Artists chart (21-20).
