Taking the title from Justin Bieber

YouTube’s Rewind 2018 video is set to become the streaming service’s most disliked ever.

The annual round-ups have featured on the site since 2010, referencing the cultural and musical moments that defined the year.

In 2018’s version, uploaded on December 6, some of the biggest YouTube stars are featured – along with Will Smith. However, many viewers are less than impressed – with the clip having gathered an enormous 8.5 million likes in its short lifespan.

As a result, it’s on track to take Justin Bieber‘s crown for the most disliked video on the site. The Canadian pop star’s clip for his 2010 single ‘Baby’ has 9.7 million dislikes. However, the Biebs’ down thumbs have built up over the course of eight years, whereas Rewind has only been online for less than a week.

Some of the criticism has come from the fact that YouTube’s biggest star’s don’t feature. PewDiePie, who holds the record for most subscribers on the service, is absent – along with the likes of Shane Dawson and Logan Paul.

“How can you be so out of touch with your audience?” one viewer posted in the comments section. Another said: “If there’s one thing that will bring people together, it’s hating this video”.

Meanwhile, the top 10 highest earning YouTube stars of 2018 were recently revealed by Forbes. Seven-year-old streamer RyanToys came in first – bagging $22 million in the last year for reviewing toys on his channel.

In other news, PewDiePie made headlines earlier this month after a fan hacked thousands of printers to ask users to subscribe to his channel.
