Animal Collective are coming back in 2016 with their 11th full-length album, Painting With, which drops Feb. 19 on Domino.
This new album from the Baltimore, MD, indie stalwarts comes from the three-man version of the outfit: Dave Portner (Avey Tare), Noah Lennox (Panda Bear) and Brian Weitz (Geologist). Josh Dibb (Deakin), who contributed to their last album Centipede Hz but was absent on their biggest seller Merriweather Post Pavilion, isn't listed on the press release for Painting With.
The curious won't have to wait until 2016 to hear new AC tunes, though. The album's first single, "FloriDada," drops today -- it's a heavily percussive, ebullient experimental pop gem with a brief sample of the Surfaris' immortal 1963 hit "Wipeout." It's in keeping with what Portner describes as their approach to the album -- which started taking shape in early 2015 -- in the LP's press release: "Really short songs: No B.S., get in, get out material."
