His daughters are "obsessed" with Eilish

Dave Grohl has compared Billie Eilish to Nirvana after noticing similar hype around the two acts.

The 17-year-old rising star’s debut LP, titled ‘When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?’ is set to be released next month, following her critically-acclaimed debut ‘Don’t Smile At Me’ EP and a string of standalone singles.

Speaking to Live Nation CEO Michael Rapino for a one-on-one discussion at PollstarLive’s conference at Beverly Hilton, Grohl spoke of Eilish, comparing her to his band Nirvana.

“My daughters are obsessed with Billie Eilish,” Grohl said. “The same thing is happening with her that happened with Nirvana in 1991. People say, ‘Is rock dead?’ When I look at someone like Billie Eilish, rock and roll is not close to dead!”

While praising Eilish, Grohl also admitted to feeling out of touch with today’s music technology. “A lot of the changes in music I don’t understand,” he said. “I don’t know the difference between Pandora and Spotify. I don’t get it. I don’t have the app. Sorry.”

Meanwhile, Eilish performed ‘Bury A Friend’ and ‘When I Was Older’ live for the first time earlier this week.

Eilish was performing at Kesselhaus in Berlin, where she played with her latest stage production to an enthusiastic crowd. The star, who appeared in the NME 100 of essential new artists for 2019, will hit the UK for tour dates at the end of this month.

“When we made ‘bury a friend,’ the whole album clicked in my head. I immediately knew what it was going to be about, what the visuals were going to be, and everything in terms of how I wanted it to be perceived,” said Eilish of her new track. “It inspired what the album is about. ‘bury a friend’ is literally from the perspective of the monster under my bed. If you put yourself in that mindset, what is this creature doing or feeling? I also confess that I’m this monster, because I’m my own worst enemy.

“I might be the monster under your bed too.”
