The Aussie psych group have released their first new song in a year

King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard have shared a retro video for their new song, ‘Cyboogie’.

The track is the band’s first in over 12 months after they achieved the ambitious feat of releasing five albums in a year in 2017.

The video for ‘Cyboogie’, which is a seven-minute, sci-fi tinged electro cut, was directed by Jason Galea. It features the band playing “identikit analogue droogs”. You can watch it below now.

King Gizzard have yet to announce the release of another record, but a press release promises ‘Cyboogie’ is “an addictive taste of what’s to come from the band.”

The Melbourne seven-piece released their latest album ‘Gumboot Soup’ with just one day left to complete their mission, on December 30, 2017. It followed ‘Flying Microtonal Banana’, ‘Murder Of The Universe’, ‘Sketches Of Brunswick East’, and ‘Polygondwanaland’.

The latter release came in an unusual format, with the band releasing the digital, CD, and vinyl masters of the tracks, leaving fans to press their own copies and, if they wanted to, sell them for profit.

“I suppose with releasing a fair amount of other music this year, it felt like we owed people a present for being so generous and coming to shows,” frontman Stu Mackenzie told NME at the time. “But it also felt like a fascinating experiment for us to do, on a purely selfish level, just to see what would happen.”
