Check your event viewer system and application logs and filter it based on errors and warnings and see if it gives you any clues
Make sure you have installed ALL the drivers that your system needs
You can download process explorer or use task manager and monitor what process is eating up your resources
Make sure you perform a CLEAN installation of whatever OS you are going to use, avoid upgrading, wipe it clean and put the new OS of your choice on it
Avoid loading up antivirus and all that crap initially you want to first get the system up and running, make sure it runs correctly and then start adding all that other crap
Make sure everything is 64bit that you are installing for better compatibilty and performance
You should be able to figure it out by monitoring task monitor or using something like process explorer. Also the event logs may give you a ton of clues
