Montréal to Be the Host City for DebConf17, the 18th Annual Debian Conference
Debian developer Didier Raboud announced this week that the 18th annual Debian conference, DebConf17, would take place next year (2017) in Montréal, Canada.
DebConf is a major event for Debian developers; it is their main event of the year, which gathers together existing and new Debian developers and collaborators who want to share their knowledge, or make contributions to the upcoming Debian GNU/Linux operating system.
Apparently, Debian Project's DebConf Committee had to choose between Montréal, the largest city in Québec, Canada, and Prague, capital of the Czech Republic, as the host for 2017's DebConf17 conference for Debian developers. The race was close, but Prague remains a very good candidate for DebConf18 in 2018.
"The DebConf Committee chose the team from Montréal (Canada) to host DebConf17, the 18th annual Debian Project's developer conference, in 2017," said Didier Raboud on behalf of the DebConf Team. "It was a close race with the very good bid from the folks from Prague. We hope that we'll see them as contenders for the DebConf18 decision!"
While the decision to host DebConf17 in Montréal was taken on February 29, 2016, at the time of writing this article there are still no official dates set for the upcoming event, which is usually held in summer, around the date of August 15, but we will update this article as soon as the Debian devs announce the official dates.
