For quite some time now, Huawei has been rumored to be in the process of developing new fast-charging solutions with the goal of introducing them alongside the Huawei Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro. And thanks to some new FCC documents that have now been published, the first proper look at these new chargers has been provided.

Starting off with Huawei’s wired solution, the brand’s current SuperCharge bricks, which can be found inside the boxes of the P20 and P20 Pro, offer a very respectable 22.5W of power. With the company’s new chargers, though, Huawei will be taking things a step further, or perhaps even a leap further, by almost doubling the output to 40W of power, something that will significantly reduce charging times.

Moving away from the more traditional methods, Huawei is also developing its own fast wireless charger. Previously, the Chinese company has shied away from the technology. But it seems the Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro will fully embrace it with the help of a new 15W wireless charger that uses the model number Cp60 – the output matches the maximum number possible with the Qi standard right now.

In addition to the newly-certified wireless charger, a separate one with the model number LZ80 leaked out just a few weeks back. Much like the Cp60 one, it supports the Qi charging standard. However, the maximum output was listed at 20W which, if accurate, could set a new standard for the industry. However, this would likely require custom chips from Huawei in order to boost the output when paired with the Mate 20 duo.

Ultimately, it seems as though Huawei is keen on setting the standard for charging solutions in the smartphone industry, at least when it comes to flagship devices. What remains to be seen at this point, though, is if Samsung or any other brand decides to fight back with an even more powerful option.
