been using Microsoft security essential since the first beta
before that I used Panda great AV but too much ressource used

ESET Nod32 is the best hands down, but it isn't free. Microsoft Security Essentials is very good for the computer novice who doesn't visit The Dark Side of the Moon...oops, I mean Internet!
