AMD Discovers Vulnerabilities Affecting Radeon and EPYC Drivers
It is important to use up-to-date drivers in order to be minimally affected by the 50 or so security vulnerabilities that have surfaced.
AMD has released three security bulletins addressing vulnerabilities affecting EPYC processors and the Radeon graphics driver for Windows 10. While many of the vulnerabilities are marked as 'high' severity, they can be patched with a driver and AGESA updates.
The chipmaker has revealed 22 potential vulnerabilities affecting three series of EPYC processors: EPYC 7001 (Naples), EPYC 7002 (Rome) and EPYC 7003 (Milan). The vulnerabilities specifically target the AMD Platform Security Processor (PSP), AMD System Management Unit (SMU), AMD Secure Encrypted Virtualization (SEV), and other platform components.
The red team has distributed the AGESA updates for NaplesPI-SP3_1.0.0.G, RomePI-SP3_1.0.0.C and MilanPI-SP3_1.0.0.4 to OEM partners. Those using one of AMD's EPYC chips can contact OEMs for these updates.
On the other hand, a number of vulnerabilities have also emerged in the Radeon graphics driver for Windows 10. AMD has identified up to 27 different vulnerabilities of varying severity affecting both mainstream and enterprise consumers. At this point, users just need to update their Radeon drivers to the latest version to fix the security vulnerabilities.
Standard users need to be on at least Radeon Adrenalin version 21.4. However, enterprise users need to make sure they are running at least the Radeon Pro Enterprise 21.Q2 driver.
