The next Crusader Kings 3 update will add all-new duels and bar brawls to the game. This is just the latest update to the game despite the title officially releasing back in September. Developer Paradox Interactive has been actively updating the game for free ever since its release, with more content planned for 2021 to come.
Crusader Kings 3 is the third title in the medieval ages RPG simulator franchise. Players take on the role of a noble or royal house in a massive realm, controlling their descendants' lives and using resources to take down warring enemies. The series is known for its complex mechanics and bugs and for creating unique experiences for every playthrough, as one player found out when their descendants managed to cannibalize and eat the Pope himself.
The most recent Developer Diary by Paradox Interactive (via Game Rant) has outlined just how these new elements will be integrated into the current build, showcasing the new dueling gameplay that fans have been asking for since it was a popular feature in Crusader Kings 2. The new system will be capable of simulating almost any kind of combat situation. According to this blog entry, Paradox Interactive has been taking its time to get the dueling system just right in the game. The team has been really zeroing in on what rules the team needed to keep in mind when creating the system; duels should be dangerous, duels should be reusable, duels should be variable, duels should be character-driven, duels should allow for both experience and intuition, and duels should allow for both roleplay and rollplay. These are all the points the developers have been working to achieve before adding the feature.

Following the update, dueling will work with two characters facing off in a battle, which will be predetermined at the start of combat. Each character will take turns defending and attacking, picking the corresponding action in response until one is declared the winner. These battles can occur both on the battlefield and in taverns; players can take part in bar brawls whenever they wish to assault some drunken patrons.
This dueling system should add a whole new layer of complexity to an already very in-depth simulation experience. There are sure to be plenty of warrior-monarchs in the game community who will relish the opportunity to take to the field and engage their foes in single combat. Hopefully they won't be disappointed by the systems Paradox Interactive has laid out in its newest patch for Crusader Kings 3.
Crusader Kings 3 is available right now on PC.
