This year's PC Gaming Show brought with it some news about the new hide-and-seek multiplayer title entering alpha in 2019, Midnight Ghost Hunt, developed by the one-man studio of Vaulted Sky Games. The game has a 4v4 squad-based system where players face off against each other in two teams, Ghosts versus Hunters, to survive until midnight.
Creative director and designer, Sam Malone, announced a host of details about the show on-stage. There's an almost Ghostbusters-esque feel to the title, with players on the Ghosts team being able to camouflage themselves and to hide within inanimate objects while the Hunters use all manner of gadgets to find them.
The trailer for Midnight Ghost Hunter shows off the mechanics that Malone discussed during the PC Gaming Show, including but not limited to ghosts hiding in the environment, knocking out Hunters with household items, firing cannons at specters to disintegrate them, and Hunters having to engage in a timed survival mode as soon as the clock strikes midnight in order to win. Malone mentioned that toughing it out until midnight was only the start: Hunters would then have to survive until evacuation comes if they were unable to dispatch all the Ghosts before the timer counted down, and the witching hour only makes said Ghosts more powerful.
Those who are looking forward to getting their hands on Midnight Ghost Hunt will be able to sign up for the alpha on the game's website this coming summer. Malone also mentioned that the Midnight Ghost Hunt Discord would be a good place to keep up with news for the title. While 4v4 squad games are not uncommon, the concept of matches starting innocuously enough before becoming more lethal as time goes on are an interesting twist on the hide and seek genre that we're keen to experience.
