Sea of Thieves is an exploration-based pirate game that features great sailing mechanics, but the open-ended plot doesn't appeal to everyone. You have to find your own path and that doesn't sit well with those who prefer single-player experiences. Over the past few months, developer Rare has added a lot of content to the game, and with the release of the "Shrouded Spoils" update last year, it seems like the game is enjoying tremendous popularity.

Shockingly enough, Sea of Thieves managed to become the most-watched game on Twitch today, beating the likes of Fortnite and Dota 2. In celebration of this milestone, Xbox's Head of Marketing Aaron Greenberg just announced that the game was being discounted by fifty percent. Hopefully Sea of Thieves will continue its Twitch streak in the coming days because there's always the risk that it's a passing fad for streamers.

Sea of Thieves is currently available for $29.99 through the Microsoft Store, but it's free for Xbox Game Pass subscribers. Keep in mind that the discount only applies to the digital version which can be played on Xbox One or Windows 10 through Xbox Play Anywhere. The title runs at native 4K resolution on Xbox One X and looks crystal clear. The game started off as a rather barebones experience when it first launched, but due to excellent post-launch support, Rare has managed to turn it around. This sort of success is many ways unprecedented in the gaming industry.
