FireShot Capture 5303 - PS5 Crash Bandicoot Rumors Hint At Ne_ - https___screenrant.com_ps5-game.jpg
New rumors have surfaced about a possible Crash Bandicoot title coming to the PlayStation 5, and its reveal could be coming quite soon. Crash Bandicoot was one of the most iconic characters from the original PlayStation era, and although the series' success didn't lead to a franchise which spanned as many games as Nintendo's Mario did, the game's developers, Naughty Dog, have gone on to create some of the most visually stunning and highly anticipated games in recent memory with The Last of Us series.
Crash Bandicoot was a goofy cartoon character on purpose, acting as a sort of throwback to the earlier animated characters which appeared in classic animated television shows like Looney Tunes and DuckTales as opposed to the more "video game-y" characters of Mario and Sonic the Hedgehog. As the age of mascot platformers wound down and mainstream games began adopting a more realistic, serious approach to titles, games like Crash Bandicoot seemed to fall out of fashion. However, it looks like Crash may be returning.
PlayStation fans have been wondering if the company was hinting at a new Crash Bandicoot game ever since November of 2019, when Sony released an ad for PlayStation which included Crash, even though he hadn't appeared in a new title for years. Now, as reported by Portuguese journalist Guru (known as @Capitaorumor on Twitter) and relayed by ComicBook, the PlayStation 5 is rumored to be the next console where Crash Bandicoot makes an appearance. According to a translation of the original Twitter message, which is embedded below, it appears that this new Crash Bandicoot game has been in development for three years already and will start being publicly marketed for the PS5 soon.

This isn't the first time players have heard rumors about a new Crash Bandicoot game being somewhat in development, as back in 2018 it was rumored that a brand-new Crash Bandicoot title would be coming to the Nintendo Switch. With the three year development period mentioned above, this could theoretically still be the same project, now possibly being re-tooled to appear as either a PlayStation 5 exclusive title or as a cross-platform release.
While an enticing idea, fans should definitely not get their hopes up until official marketing material for this theoretical new Crash Bandicoot game on the PlayStation 5 arrives. As players get closer to the planned release of the PS5 and Xbox Series X this holiday season, they will likely see dozens, if not hundreds, of such leaks in the coming months, and it will take a keen eye and strong will to not be misled by something just because it sounds like it would be really, really fun to play. Until word about a PlayStation 5 version of Crash Bandicoot comes from Sony's mouth, it would be best to not get anyone's hopes up.
