A teaser trailer has been released for The Lord of the Rings: Gollum, which shows off the game's version of the title character, as well as the fiery land of Mordor. The Lord of the Rings: Gollum is an upcoming narrative-focused game that tells the story of Smeagol and his transformation into the pitiful Gollum.

The Lord of the Rings: Gollum will use new designs that are different from the ones used in the Peter Jackson movies. The fact that Gollum has dueling personalities will be an important mechanic in the game, which is likely a necessary aspect of the story, considering how few friendly faces Gollum will encounter on his journey. It has been confirmed that the Nazgul will appear in the game, but they won't be as frightening as their movie counterparts.

Daedelic Entertainment has released the first official teaser trailer for The Lord of the Rings: Gollum, courtesy of IGN. The trailer shows dead fish and their bones within Gollum's cave, cave paintings of two people in a boat (which is likely Smeagol and Deagol, but could also be Bilbo and Gollum, depending on the timeline), followed by a drawing of a stick person worshiping the One Ring. Gollum is shown in his cave, with the new design that has been shown in screenshots in the past.

Gollum is then shown scaling up the side of a cliff, with Mount Doom in the distance, confirming that he has arrived in Mordor. There is a settlement with a large tower behind Mount Doom, which is Barad-dur. It might be hard to recognize at first, as it's lacking the giant flaming eye from Peter Jackson's interpretation of Mordor.

There were rumors that the development of The Lord of the Rings: Gollum was facing financial problems, but it seems that work is continuing on the game as planned. There is still no word regarding a solid release date, but if the developers are releasing a teaser trailer (even one that's all cinematics), then production on the game must be going forward. The Lord of the Rings: Gollum teaser trailer didn't mention any release year at the end of the video, so there is the possibility that it will face a delay, but it's assumed that the game is still on track for its 2021 release as of the time of writing.

The Lord of the Rings: Gollum is due to be released for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X in 2021.
