The Last of Us Part 2 is once again available for pre-order following a turbulent couple of weeks that saw the game delayed indefinitely, rescheduled for June, and spoiled by the leak of important story details. Originally scheduled for release on the PlayStation 4 in May, The Last of Us Part 2 will now hit stores on June 19.

The delay of The Last of Us Part 2 was just one of many delays and disruptions to hit the video game industry due to the novel coronavirus outbreak fracturing supply chains and making in-person contact dangerous. Given how much hype there was around the upcoming sequel, it’s perhaps no surprise that Sony and developer Naughty Dog moved quickly to get the game into players’ hands with as little of a delay as possible. The companies announced as much within days of the initial delay before revealing the new release date last week, shortly after leaked footage spoiled major details of the game’s story. Though it was originally reported that the leaks came from a developer working on the game, Sony later declared that rumor to be false.

With The Last of Us Part 2 back on track for release, Naughty Dog announced that pre-orders are open again on the PlayStation Store. The ability to pre-order the game was removed after the delay announcement and Sony offered refunds to anyone who had already pre-ordered it. According to the listing on the PlayStation Store, pre-orders will include a The Last of Us Part 2 avatar and instant in-game unlocks of several crafting recipes and upgrades. When players are able to start pre-loading the game, they’ll need 100GB of free hard drive space for the whole game, while physical copies will come on two discs.

The rapid changes to The Last of Us Part 2’s release date may be surprising, but Naughty Dog said the game was nearly ready for its May release from a development standpoint. According to the developer, it was logistical issues to do with shipping the game that held up its release, as the team was already in the process of squashing its final bugs.

There’s a lot riding on The Last of Us Part 2, both as a game that players have been waiting years for and as one of the last big PlayStation 4 exclusives before the launch of the PlayStation 5. After repeated delays, Naughty Dog seems confident that The Last of Us Part 2 will live up to the hype, and players will get to decide for themselves in less than two months.

The Last of Us Part 2 will be available June 19 on the PlayStation 4.
