Nintendo has officially confirmed The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt for the Nintendo Switch. Recent leaks surfaced suggesting that the title would soon get a port to Switch, especially after product listings for The Witcher 3 started turning up on several Asian online retail sites for the console.

Based on a series of books by Andrzej Sapkowski, The Witcher 3 follows the final adventures of Geralt of Rivia. Developed by CD Projekt Red, the title was a massive hit with critics and players alike. Although it released in 2015, there is still a lot of interest in the game and its franchise will soon have its own television series on Netflix. The Witcher 3 also won a series of awards, and further elevated the reputation of developer CD Projekt Red who have since shifted attention to Cyberpunk 2077. It's been a big E3 for them! Geralt's adventures have never taken him to a Nintendo platform, at least until now.

Nintendo took to its E3 Nintendo Direct live stream to announce that The Witcher 3 is finally arriving on the Switch. The Nintendo Switch version will be "The Complete Edition" of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt for Switch and includes both expansion packs for the story, as well as 16 free DLCs. Because of the nature of Switch, this will be the first time The Witcher 3 has been fully mobile, allowing players to take Geralt, Ciri, Triss and Yennefer with them on the go.

The Witcher 3 is a spec-intensive game on PC, and judging from the Switch trailer, the graphics were significantly downgraded from the original version as it appeared on other consoles and PC by necessity. The idea of being able to play The Witcher 3 on the Switch, specifically in handheld mode, holds a lot of appeal for existing fans and anyone who has a Switch but has yet to play the award-winning title. It could also do well with gamers who prefer playing mobile games, opening up the franchise to an entirely new demographic.

CD Projekt Red has stated that Geralt's story is officially over, but that doesn't mean that he will be forgotten or that the franchise is done with. The Witcher 3 being ported to Switch allows players to replay his story in a new way. So when can fans expect to get their hands on The Witcher 3 for Switch? Nintendo promises that it will arrive sometime in 2019. Fans can also expect the TV Series to debut in late 2019, truly making this the year of The Witcher.
