Techland has revealed its third brand-new content update for Dying Light's Hellraid DLC, introducing a whole new map section to explore, and a new magic skill to unlock by completing a daring quest. Hellraid was originally a separate Techland IP that featured a medieval setting with first-person melee combat and dungeon crawling mechanics seen in many other fantasy role-playing games. Announced around the same time as Dying Light, the title was later canceled and re-introduced as DLC, five years after the survival horror's initial release.

The open-world zombie survival adventure was popular at launch and became one of the most downloaded games in 2015. Committed to supporting the game, developer Techland launched an expansion, content packs, content drops, and regular free updates throughout the game several years after its release. The studio is now set to release a next-gen patch for Dying Light on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S almost seven years after its launch, following the title's Platinum Edition re-release earlier this year that also saw the zombie action-adventure come to Nintendo Switch.

Officially launching today, Techland has revealed its third content update for Dying Light's Hellraid DLC. The new update will feature a brand new map section in The Mysterious Portal - where venturesome players can begin a challenging quest to unlock an exclusive weapon and magical skill. The quest must be done in one playthrough, and upon completion, will award players with the Fire Wand, a fireball-shooting weapon that sets enemies on fire, alongside the Wand Mastery skill. Additionally, three new potions will provide buffs, including reduced enemy damage, up to 200% melee damage, and double movement speed. The new content update will also feature new challenge modes via portals and a new location called The Armor, which will unlock once the imprisonment side quest is completed. This area will allow players to display their weapons that they can unlock by progressing through the DLC's ranks.

While the original Dying Light continues to receive support and content from Techland, this is set to end soon. The developer's highly anticipated survival-horror sequel, Dying Light 2 is set to release in early 2022 after multiple delays. The ambiguous title will expand the series' signature parkour system, combat, and will feature a branched choice-driven story that will play a heavy role in progression.

Dying Light 2 is only a few months away and Techland continues to update the original title with exclusive content. Hellraid, although never a standalone title itself, is an important part of the Techland's history and continues to expand - giving RPG fans an additional mode to relish. While it is unknown if it will be getting an additional expansion in the future, maybe Dying Light's sequel will see the return of the popular DLC in some shape next year.
