Supergiant Games' Hades is coming to Nintendo Switch soon, as revealed by an impressive new animated trailer. The stylish action-RPG, currently available on PC in early access, combines Greek mythology with smooth isometric dungeon crawling and roguelike elements.
Supergiant Games is known for its exceptional work on Bastion, Pyre and the cyberpunk-inspired Transistor. Hades is the studio's latest offering, and has been playable in early access on PC since 2018. Supergiant has maintained a regular update schedule for the game's early access period, sticking to its roadmap and keeping its players engaged with substantial new content over time. Originally, Hades debuted as an Epic Games Store exclusive, and only just arrived on Steam at the end of last year. It has been scheduled to launch out of early access in the second half of 2020, but there has been no confirmation of any console version up until now.
That changed today as part of Nintendo's Indie World Showcase. The presentation opened with a gorgeous new animated trailer for Hades, revealing that the game will also come to Nintendo Switch when its 1.0 version releases this year. While it doesn't have an exact release date yet, the trailer provided a launch window of fall 2020 - meaning the game is still on track in spite of the many other delays caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
Hades producer Amir Rao also announced that the game will support cross-saves. This means that players who have been putting time into the early access version on PC will be able to transfer their progress to the Nintendo Switch version once it comes out. Given that many players have already clocked dozens of hours of dungeon crawling in the roguelike action-RPG, this will be a boon for anyone wanting to take their file on the go.
Hades is a great fit for the Switch, and Nintendo fans have a lot to look forward to when the complete game drops in the near future. Supergiant's trademark art design and haunting music will be familiar to those who have picked up the developer's other titles on the eShop, but this is the first time the studio has attempted a roguelike with significant replay value - and it's been a very well-received success so far. Unfortunately, there's still no word on whether or not the game will come to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, but it's possible that Supergiant is developing a next-gen version instead.
Hades is available now in early access on PC.
