Here’s where Xur is in Destiny 2 today, and what you should buy from him
Xûr is Destiny 2’s Exotic gear merchant. He appears every weekend to sell the game’s most coveted items in exchange for Legendary shards, but if you’re a casual player with limited shards to spend, it can be hard to know which of his wares is most worth your investment. That’s where we come in.
Xûr appears every Friday at 17:00 GMT (09:00 Pacific), and will stick around until the Tuesday reset. We’ll update this guide shortly after he arrives, so if you’re reading this, you need only read on to learn where he is, and which are the best items he’s selling this week.
Ever since the Forsaken expansion, Xûr’s icon no longer appears on your director, so he’s not quite as easy to track down as he used to be. That said, his appearances in the EDZ, Titan, Nessus, Io, and The Tower have so far been in the same places he frequented in vanilla Destiny 2. When he appears in the Tangled Shore or Dreaming City (as he surely will) we’ll be sure to let you know exactly where.
Xûr is back on Nessus this week, at Watcher’s Grave. He is selling:
The Colony, an Exotic heavy grenade launcher, for 29 legendary shards
Knucklehead Radar, an Exotic Hunter helmet, for 23 legendary shards
Peacekeepers, Exotic Titan leg armour, for 23 legendary shards
Claws of Ahamkara, Exotic Warlock gauntlets, for 23 legendary shards
A Fated Engram, which guarantees a non-duplicate Exotic, for 97 legendary shards.
The Colony is the coolest weapon in Destiny 2. It fires Insectoid Robot Grenades, which split into tiny bots that chase down and explode on your enemies. Come on, who can argue with the value of tiny robot armies? It’s also very useful across modes – while the community’s cry of “just jump” continues, those bot armies will still catch plenty of Crucible opponents unaware. It’s a solid pick across all types of play, though in PvE you may want something with higher damage potential.
Knucklehead Radar returns from the original to provide radar when aiming down sights. Now that feathering the trigger to flash your radar doesn’t work, and the perpetual radar affects energy and power weapons too, this has become a pretty decent helmet, especially in PvP. Recommended, if more out of pragmatism than romance: it’s hardly the most exciting Exotic we’ve ever seen.
Peacekeepers are Titan boots that will automatically reload SMGs after they’ve been stowed for a short time, and cause them to ready instantly. You can have a lot of fun with this: pair an energy SMG with a kinetic one and you can keep switching between them for endless shooting with no downtime. SMGs are short-ranged weapons, so this is a bit of a reckless tactic, but it’s pretty fun. If your enemies are using Arc damage, the auto-reload from Riskrunner’s Superconductor perk just adds to this. Grab Peacekeepers if you enjoy SMGs and fancy a laugh. In terms of actual efficacy, it’s one tactic for add control, but it’s very ammo-intensive, and SMGs aren’t really the best pick at any stage of the raid.
Claws of Ahamkara offer The Whispers, a perk which grants you an additional melee charge. If that sounds straightforward, that’s because it is – you can build some nifty synergies with access to extra melees, but there are bigger and more interesting Exotics for Warlocks to make use of.
