The trailer for The Expanse season 6 has been released, teasing an action-packed finale to the Amazon series. The critically acclaimed sci-fi epic, set in a colonized solar system, follows the crew of the warship Rocinante as they navigate humanity on the brink during a long-standing conflict between Earth, Mars, and the Asteroid Belt. Starring Steven Strait as captain of the Rocinante, James Holden, Dominique Tipper as Naomi, and Wes Chatham as Amos, The Expanse will return with its conclusion this December.
The Amazon original has only grown in popularity since being picked up by the Prime Video streaming service in 2018, following its cancellation by Syfy just months prior. A huge outcry from the show's fans at Syfy's decision convinced Amazon to step in to save the production, delivering three additional seasons and finding The Expanse a diehard sci-fi audience in the process. While the series has been highly regarded for its impressive visuals and satirical political underpinning, The Expanse season 6 will mark the series' epic six-episode finale.
Now, Amazon has released a new trailer for The Expanse season 6. Chrisjen Avasarala's (Shohreh Aghdashloo) opening narration sets the trailer's tone, introducing a solar system and a Rocinante in crisis, saying, "We wandered, broken, trying desperately to keep ourselves going by pretending we're not." All sides appear to be mobilizing for war, setting up a season that will explore the galactic conflict reaching its climax. The clip shows Marco Inaros letting out a rallying cry for the Belters, as well as Bobbie Draper planning to reunite with the Roci crew. Amid epic ship engagements in space and personal trials for the cast of characters, viewers are given hints of fresh discoveries of "The Motherlode" and something very unexpected at the end of the clip. The final season of The Expanse will cover the events of the sixth book of the bestselling science fiction novels of the same name. In the original novels, with war raging in the solar system and charismatic villain Marco Inaros and The Free Navy launching devastating asteroid attacks toward Earth and Mars, the Rocinante faces conflict on board. However, an anti-Inaros squad is assembling to fight back, and Bobbie Draper heads on a secret mission to try to change the course of the war. From the looks of the trailer, it seems The Expanse season 6 will largely mirror the novels' narrative when it returns to Prime Video on December 10. While showrunner Naren Shankar continues as The Expanse's executive producer along with Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck, the writers of the novels that spawned the production, Alcon Television Group produces the Amazon exclusive.
The creators of The Expanse will be aware that a show's final season can cast a long shadow, and what they do with season 6 may define the success of the entire series. The promise of intense action in the upcoming season is unquestioned, but it's the loose threads across The Expanse's run appearing to tie slowly together that could make season 6 of the award-winning series its best, as well as it's last. Ultimately, the latest trailer appears to set up The Expanse for a finale that fans can truly relish.
