The title sequence for Netflix's Wednesday show has been released online, and the sequence feels incredibly reminiscent of the titles of Sam Raimi's 2002 Spider-Man movie. The upcoming The Addams Family spinoff series centers on Jenna Ortega's Wednesday Addams, with Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzmān, Isaac Arminez, and Fred Armisen as the other members of the iconic family. Wednesday is set to premiere on November 23, and will follow the titular character as she balances an investigation into a mystery that has plagued her family with the high school-related trials of enrolling in Nevermore Academy.

Uploaded to the official Netflix YouTube channel, the newly released Wednesday title sequence introduces audiences to various pieces of imagery familiar to The Addams Family franchise, including Thing, and other morbid visuals that may hint towards the series' plot. However, some viewers may feel that the sequence is incredibly reminiscent of the opening titles of Raimi's hit superhero movie, Spider-Man, which also focused heavily on imagery associated with the hero. Composer Danny Elfman is even responsible for both the show and film's music. Check out the sequence in the video below:

Wednesday Title Sequence Suggests Show Is Goth Dream Come True

With Wednesday's titles featuring several pieces of spooky and macabre imagery alongside a grandiose orchestral score, the upcoming Netflix series is already promising to be perfect for those fond of a gothic style. Elfman composed Wednesday's soundtrack and worked alongside his frequent collaborator, series producer and director Tim Burton, with the two creatives reuniting to bring Charles Addam's world to life for Netflix after having worked together on a total of 16 feature-length films over the years. Together, Burton and Elfman are responsible for crafting a number of features that have become well-loved for their dark sense of humor and surreal, spooky visuals, including Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands, and Batman.

Alongside the talents of Burton and Elfman, Wednesday has already proven to capture many of the goth aesthetics that come to mind for viewers. This can be observed in the show's setting of Nevermore Academy, an institution where outcasts who are supernaturally gifted can study and learn to better themselves in safety. From uniforms consisting of purple and black to gothic architecture adorned by raven sculptures surrounded by woodland, the Academy captures many traits that firmly root it in gothic stylings that remain faithful to the visuals established by the original author's artwork, as well as subsequent adaptations.

Despite the Wednesday opening sequence's surprising similarities to Spider-Man's titles, it is actually a perfect way to immerse audiences in the world of the upcoming Netflix series. The Addams Family has firmly placed itself within pop culture to the degree where the series can be recognized through imagery alone; as such, the title sequence employs much of it to help ease audiences into the creepy and kooky world of the show. With the series' showrunners hopeful about Wednesday receiving a season 2, the newly released title sequence shows that the series has perfectly managed to capture the tone of The Addams Family's world.
