Tenet is now scheduled to debut in U.S. theaters in September after premiering internationally earlier. The latest film from director Christopher Nolan was originally supposed to come out earlier this month, but it's been postponed multiple times due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Most recently, Warner Bros. pulled Tenet from its planned August 12 release, with the plan to announce a new date in the near future. The studio wanted to take time to reevaluate the current circumstances and plot out a new strategy.

That strategy included the possibility Tenet may open internationally before coming to America. Whereas the pandemic has improved in various countries around the world, the U.S. has struggled mightily to contain the health crisis and cases recently spiked in several different states. Because of this, theaters in major markets like New York and Los Angeles remain closed, raising questions about when new releases will play on the big screen. WB is attempting to make the most of the situation with an unprecedented release pattern that won't see Tenet come out everywhere at once.

Today, WB announced Tenet will open in 70 countries, including Canada and several major countries in Europe, on August 26. It will then premiere in "select cities" in the U.S. on September 4.
