Sylvester Stallone looks commanding as a mob boss in a new image from Tulsa King. In his first leading role in a television series, Stallone plays Dwight "The General" Manfredi, a New York Mafia capo who, after serving a 25-year prison sentence, is sent to the unlikeliest of places; Tulsa, Oklahoma, to establish a criminal enterprise there. Tulsa King is created by Yellowstone and The Mayor of Kingstown's Taylor Sheridan and is showrun by Terence Winter, a writer for The Sopranos who went on to create Boardwalk Empire.
Other than Stallone leading the Tulsa King cast, the series stars Max Casella, The Wire's Domenick Lombardozzi, Vincent Piazza, Andrea Savage, Martin Starr, Garrett Hedlund, Dana Delaney, and Annabella Sciora. The first look at Stallone's mob boss in the series surfaced this past April and the subsequent Tulsa King trailer further teased the show's fish-out-of-water premise as the seasoned New York gangster relocates to Oklahoma. Now, as its premiere date approaches, Paramount+ has revealed another look at its promising new series.
Two months ahead of its premiere, Empire has an exclusive new look at Tulsa King. The image shows Dwight Manfredi, who appears to be sitting at a bar, as Stallone absolutely looks the part as the mafia don known as The General.
Stallone is, of course, best known as the star of the Rocky and Rambo franchises and is one of the most prolific actors in Hollywood. However, in his 50-year acting career, Stallone has never starred as the lead in a TV series, despite guest starring on shows like Police Story and Kojak during the 1970s and more recently, This Is Us. A series like Tulsa King seems to suit Stallone's sensibilities perfectly as he makes the transition from blockbuster film to television at 76 years of age.
Tulsa King also appears to be a fascinating amalgam of mafia and Western dramas from two creatives who have experience specializing in those genres – Sheridan with Yellowstone and its 1883 prequel, and Winter on The Sopranos and Boardwalk Empire. It will be interesting to see how they combine their talents for one unique series, and how Stallone ultimately handles playing a domineering Mafia don. Audiences won't have to wait too much longer to find out, as Tulsa King premieres November 13 on Paramount+. In the meantime, more trailers, images, and clips should be on the way.
