The Old West was just as populated by strong females as men as seen in the Two Sinners and a Mule trailer. The film stars Chantelle Albers and Hannah James as courtesans Alice and Nora who find themselves driven out of their town by the religious locals and stumble across wounded bounty hunter Elden Gallup, who they nurse back to health in exchange for splitting the bounty on a murderous bandit. Alongside Albers and James, the cast for Two Sinners and a Mule includes Cam Gigadent, Buck Taylor, Cord Newman, David Midthunder, and Luce Rains.
With just over two weeks remaining until it arrives, ****** is proud to exclusively present the Two Sinners and a Mule trailer. The trailer offers the first look at the upcoming Western thriller, which presents a feminine twist on the genre as it focuses on two ladies of pleasure who team up with a near-dead bounty hunter to track down the ruthless bandit Gila Grimes. How Two Sinners and a Mule Changes the Western Genre
Since the height of its popularity in the '40s-'60s, the Western genre has been a notably male-dominated field, launching the likes of John Wayne, Clint Eastwood, and James Stewart, among others, to being household names. While there have been plenty of prominent actresses lending their talents to the genre, very rarely have they actually put said characters at the forefront as the strong protagonists rather than supporting players to the male leads.
The Two Sinners and a Mule trailer looks to be joining the roster of the rare films that have strong female leads with its ladies of pleasure-turned-bounty hunters at the forefront. While it's unclear how the film will live up to some of its predecessors, it does have the capacity to stand alongside the likes of Sam Raimi's The Quick and the Dead, 1970s Two Mules for Sister Sara, in which Eastwood starred as the supporting figure, and the Michelle Williams-led Meek's Cutoff.
With a pair of female leads in the film, Two Sinners and a Mule looks to also be following in the footsteps of the Salma Hayek and Penelope Cruz-led Bandidas. However, by retaining a more serious tone in comparison to the action-comedy feel of the 2006 movie, it could very well set a new bar for the Western genre moving forward. Only time will tell when Two Sinners and a Mule hits select theaters, digital platforms and VOD on April 21.
