The upcoming animated series, Star Trek: Prodigy, has added Jason Alexander and a number of other stars to the voice cast. Intended for younger audiences, Prodigy follows a group of young aliens as they stumble upon an abandoned Starfleet ship. The kids must learn to get the U.S.S. Protostar up and running as they make their way towards the Alpha Quadrant. While Prodigy won’t be the first animated entry in the Star Trek franchise—it is preceded by Star Trek: The Animated Series and the ongoing Star Trek: Lower Decks—Prodigy is the first series to be specifically intended for kids. Prodigy will premiere on Paramount+ in late October and will air on Nickelodeon following its initial streaming run.

New audiences will be introduced to Captain Janeway in Star Trek: Prodigy. Kate Mulgrew is reprising her role as the Star Trek: Voyager character, albeit in a slightly different form; a holographic A.I. version of the captain will serve as a guide for the teenage explorers. Mulgrew is joined by a talented cast, including Big Mouth's Jason Mantzoukas and veteran voice actor, Dee Bradley Baker. John Noble (Fringe) and Jimmi Simpson (Westworld) are joining as a pair of villains, and Ella Purnell, Brett Gray, Angus Imrie, and Rylee Alazraqui also star.

Now Paramount+ has revealed four new additions to the series’ cast, ComicBook.com reports. At the Star Trek: Prodigy panel at New York Comic-Con, the streaming platform announced that Jason Alexander, Daveed Diggs, and Jameela Jamil will join season 1 in recurring roles. Diggs will voice Commander Tysess, Jamil will voice Ensign Asencia, and Alexander will voice Doctor Noum. Robert Beltran will also join the series to reprise his role as Chakotay from Star Trek: Voyager. Jamil took to Twitter to confirm the announcement, calling her involvement in the series a “childhood dream.”

Though he is best known for playing George Costanza on Seinfeld, Star Trek: Prodigy won’t be the first time the actor is doing voice work. Alexander earned his voice acting credentials in The Hunchback of Notre Dame, as the lead role in Duckman, and in a number of Disney animated series. Most recently, Alexander voiced Sy Borgman on the ongoing animated series, Harley Quinn. Still, Prodigy is a notable achievement for the actor. Alexander is a huge Star Trek fan, having appeared as the alien Kurros in the Voyager season 5 episode, “Think Tank.” He also played Olix the bartender on the Star Trek-inspired series, The Orville.

Now Alexander is joining the Star Trek universe once again, this time as an animated tellarite. Having played George Costanza—a “short, stocky, slow-witted, bald man”—for nine seasons, Alexander will surely be up to the task of playing a member of the stout humanoid species. Tellarites are considered to be argumentative and headstrong, not unlike George, though, thankfully, are lightyears more diplomatic. Little has been revealed as to what Alexander and his fellow cast members will be up to on Star Trek: Prodigy, but fans need only wait until the show’s premiere on October 28 to find out.
