Star Trek: Picard season 3's composers, Stephen Barton and Frederik Weidmann, hint that "something is teed up" to follow the final season of Picard. Proving to be a huge hit with critics and fans, Star Trek: Picard season 3 has not only re-ignited love for the cast of Star Trek: The Next Generation, but it has introduced the 'next Next Generation', such as Jack Crusher (Ed Speleers), the son of Admiral Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) and Dr. Beverly Crusher (Gates McFadden).
In an exclusive interview with ******, Star Trek: Picard composers Stephen Barton and Frederik Weidmann were asked about what the future beyond season 3 could look like. Barton and Weidmann agreed that the characters and ideas Picard season 3 set up can continue in "something." Check out their quotes below:
Will Star Trek: Legacy Follow Picard Season 3?
Although no follow-up to Star Trek: Picard season 3 has been officially announced, showrunner Terry Matalas and his creative team have publicly lobbied for a spinoff series called Star Trek: Legacy. Star Trek: Picard season 3's cast, including LeVar Burton, support Star Trek: Legacy and returning their iconic roles for further adventures. Star Trek: Legacy is very likely the "something" Picard's composers hinted has been "teed up," and a potential new series about the 'next Next Generation' is certainly something fans are excited about as well.
Matalas teased that Star Trek: Legacy would focus on the "Last Generation and the Next Generation," indicating it would continue what Star Trek: Picard season 3 has intriguingly set in motion. This could potentially mean the return of Jack Crusher, Geordi La Forge's daughters Sidney (Ashlei Sharpe Chestnut) and Alandra La Forge (Mica Burton), and perhaps Commander Seven of Nine (Jeri Ryan) and Captain Liam Shaw (Todd Stashwick) aboard the USS Titan-A. Star Trek: Legacy would also allow the TNG icons to reprise their roles, something actors Jonathan Frakes, Michael Dorn, Gates McFadden, and others have expressed interest in.
The ball is in Paramount+'s court to greenlight Star Trek: Legacy, especially considering the success of Star Trek: Picard season 3. Even before First Contact Day on April 5, 2023, Paramount+ has already renewed Star Trek: Strange New Worlds for season 3 and Star Trek: Lower Decks for season 5, as well as announcing a brand-new series, Star Trek: Starfleet Academy. Star Trek: Legacy could be another jewel in Star Trek on Paramount+'s crown if it happens.
Star Trek: Picard Season 3 streams Thursdays on Paramount+.
