Sophie Turner might have concluded her time as Jean Grey in Dark Phoenix, but she may have a new role lined up already, as Boy George has named her as one of the actors he wants to portray him an upcoming biopic about his life.
The visual similarities between Sophie Turner and Boy George have been pointed out since she debuted in Game of Thrones, though these were rarely meant as an insult, as Boy George presented himself as an androgynous figure throughout his career. The comparisons between the two lessened as Turner grew older over the course of Game of Thrones and was able to take on roles outside of the show that allowed her to dress in a more contemporary way.
The success of musical biopics like Bohemian Rhapsody and Rocketman has led to studios greenlighting similar movies and a film about Boy George is currently in development. Boy George appeared on the Fitzy and Wippa radio show in Australia (via Vogue) and was asked about who he would like to play him in the upcoming movie about his life. Boy George listed Sophie Turner as one of the most interesting suggestions for the role.
“One of the most interesting suggestions was Sophie Turner. [People will say] ‘she can’t play you she’s a woman,’ you know. But when I was 17, I would have loved to have been her,”
Sophie Turner has since responded to the story on Twitter, expressing her interest in the role.

Not everyone is so thrilled with the prospect of Sophie Turner playing Boy George, as Piers Morgan blasted the idea on Good Morning Britain (via Evening Standard), with one of his complaints being that she wouldn't be able to perform any sex scenes as Boy George due to her gender. This is a ridiculous complaint, considering the numerous examples of people playing the roles of different genders in cinema history, which has rarely impeded their ability to perform romantic or lovemaking scenes.
Sophie Turner has recently concluded runs on two popular series that ended in ways that caused backlash from fans, with the final season of Game of Thrones being condemned for the unsatisfying endings for many of the characters and Dark Phoenix being both a critical and commercial failure. Turner has confirmed that she won't be returning to play Sansa Stark in a Game of Thrones spinoff, so the time might be right to step away from fantasy and science fiction roles and to go for something more grounded. Boy George has led an incredibly interesting life and it would be hard for a biopic to screw up his story. Turner has already proven that she has got what it takes as an actor to play Boy George, regardless of her gender.
