J.J. Abrams’ TV show Demimonde has officially been cancelled after being in the pipeline for four years. Abrams is known for his work on action and sci-fi movies like Star Trek Into Darkness, two Star Wars movies, Mission: Impossible III, and more. He has also done TV work for shows like Lost and Undercovers. He hasn’t worked on many major TV shows in a few years, though, and hasn’t had a writing credit on a show since Fringe, which he created in 2008. Abrams had been planning on making a comeback into the TV world with a new show called Demimonde.

Now, TVLine reports that Demimonde is no longer going to happen. Demimonde was ordered to series by HBO in 2018. The plot was kept under wraps, but it was reported as a sci-fi fantasy drama, and in April, it was even announced that Danielle Deadwyler would be playing the lead. The show was reportedly cancelled due to a dispute over a deal between Bad Robot (Abrams’ production company) and WarnerMedia. David Zaslav, CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, had reportedly expressed frustration about the deal not being very fruitful.

Despite Demimonde no longer being produced, Abrams has other projects in the pipeline. Abrams is reportedly working on a TV adaptation of Speed Racer. He’s also developing a new documentary called The Blue Angels about a flight squadron in the Navy and Marine Corps. Though fans won’t get to know what the filmmaker had in store for Demimonde, there’s plenty more to come from the prolific filmmaker.
