With a new guard of showrunners and a couple new faces in the cast, Fear the Walking Dead wasted no time in digging into the upcoming fourth season of the AMC drama at Wondercon. Moderated by Walking Dead ambassador Chris Hardwick, showrunners and behind the camera brass Scott Gimple, Andrew Chambliss, Ian Goldberg, and Greg Nicotero were joined on stage by Colman Domingo, Alycia Debnam-Carey, Danay Garcia, Lennie James, as well as newcomers Maggie Grace, Garrett Dillahunt, and Jenna Elfman. All had fun talking and threw us some bones about the new season for Dead fans to gnaw on.

As Hardwick points out, the season finale of The Walking Dead will dovetail into the series premiere of Fear, which debuts on April 15. It has already been announced that Morgan (James) will be the bridge between the two shows in the highly anticipated Dead-crossover event. But beyond the crossover, Gimple says this season is “everything you know about the show.” He points out that the characters have a great deal of relationships going on between them and the dynamics are shifting. Enemies have become friends and positions of power have changed.

Chambliss adds, “This season is all about a journey from isolation to community and it’s about people in a bleak and dark world looking for a shred of hope to keep fighting.”

As expected, the panel tiptoed around and stayed tight-lipped about what they can reveal about the show — especially rookies Grace, Dillahunt, and Elfman. As Grace struggled to say what she could say about what’s in store for her character Althea this season, Chambliss came in and said, “Althea is thriving in the apocalypse in a way that some people wouldn’t.” Which still didn’t give us much. In fact, the panel was more about what they couldn’t say about the new season more than about what they could say.

“If we can for the next 10 minutes just talk vaguely about everything,” half-joked Gimple.

I guess everyone will just have to wait until the premiere on April 15 to see what has everyone so tight-lipped.
