Scream 6 premiered four weeks ago, and now demands for Scream 7 have reached a fever pitch. The slasher sequel, which is the latest entry in the meta horror-comedy franchise that began with the 1996 classic Scream, follows the survivors of 2022's Scream to New York City, where a new Ghostface killer arrives on the scene. Also on hand in the Scream 6 cast are newcomers Devyn Nekoda, Jack Champion, Josh Segarra, Dermot Mulroney, Samara Weavng, Liana Liberato, and Tony Revolori.
Now that Scream 6 is entering its fifth weekend, fans are getting antsy about the fact that Scream 7 has not yet been officially announced. On top of that, earlier on Thursday, news dropped that the film crossed the $100 million mark at the domestic box office, outgrossing M3GAN to become the highest-grossing 2023 horror film in the U.S. market. Many fans have used this announcement as an excuse to express their Scream 7 frustration. Check out select fan reactions below:
Why Hasn't Scream 7 Been Announced Yet?
While fans are frustrated by the delay in the Scream 7 announcement, it seems inevitable that Scream 6's financial success will result in another sequel coming sooner than later. There are likely quite a few factors contributing to the delays. The first is the natural lifespan of a theatrical film. Considering the fact that it took three weeks for Scream 6 to be announced after 2022's Scream premiered, the timeline is similar here, but with perhaps some extra time being taken into account for Scream 6's larger budget.
The second is the possibility that producers may be waiting to ink contracts with returning stars and behind-the-camera personnel before they make the announcement. The announcement would be even more explosive if those details were locked down before Scream 7 was officially greenlit. As several fans have speculated, this could include the team attempting to make a new deal with Sidney Prescott actor Neve Campbell after she turned down their offer to join the roster of Scream 6 legacy characters, saying it was too low to reflect her worth to the franchise.
Now that Scream 6 has made $100 million in the U.S. and over $150 million worldwide, the Scream 7 news will very likely be right around the corner. It's possible the PR team was waiting to reach this milestone before making the announcement. If that's the case, they may now be waiting just a little longer, biding their time until the end of this weekend's Star Wars Celebration in order for the news to not be overshadowed by any announcements coming out of that event.
