Kate Winslet is attached to a second HBO limited series in early development, the drama The Palace, after the success of Mare of Easttown. The Oscar winner has continued to work consistently in television for the premium cable network, winning two Emmy Awards for her leading roles in the miniseries Mildred Pierce in 2011 and Mare of Easttown last year. Last month, it was announced that she would return to HBO to star in the upcoming limited series Trust, based on the book by Hernan Diaz, and not long after, it seems that she is also gearing up for another additional series.
Per Variety, Winslet will now headline and executive produces the upcoming limited series The Palace, which tells the story of one year within the walls of the palace of an authoritarian regime as it begins to unravel. This will be her fourth starring role for HBO, and the show is created by Will Tracy, a writer and executive producer of Succession. They will be joined by producer Frank Rich, also an executive producer on Succession, and the series will be directed by Oscar nominee Stephen Frears, who is recently known for his Emmy-nominated direction on A Very English Scandal and Muhammad Ali's Greatest Fight. A statement from Francesca Orsi, executive vice president of HBO Programming, can be read below:
Winslet has certainly been churning out stellar work in her latest television career, so there is no doubt that she will continue to produce great material and wonderful performances, especially given that she will have significant input in key creative decisions for The Palace. She also continues to be very active in movies, soon to be seen in James Cameron's Avatar: The Way of Water, and will also portray photographer Lee Miller in an upcoming biopic. More details on The Palace are yet to come, but it will be exciting to see where her career will go next.“We are honored to be working with this incredibly talented group of filmmakers on ‘The Palace.' The notion that Kate Winslet and Stephen Frears, two of our industry’s leading lights (who – remarkably – have never collaborated before now), are joining forces to bring Will Tracy’s wildly original, prescient, and dazzling scripts to life at HBO is a dream come true for us.”
